About

Mike Aviles is a versatile CEO with a track record of success across several different industries. He has run public and private companies, growth and turnaround situations, and B2B and B2C businesses. He has been on the buy-side and the sell-side of several strategic transactions. He has also enjoyed three, one-year sabbaticals in between challenging assignments.

Mike leverages his professional experience to help grow or turnaround businesses.  He will also step in to run companies as an interim CEO and advises Boards of Directors and Private Equity Investors with their portfolio companies.

A strategist and an operator with a strong financial underpinning, Mike distinguishes himself with his ability to get things done. He fundamentally agrees that “strategy is execution and execution is everything.” Consequently, he not only advises others on what can be done but works as part of the team to make sure the ideas are properly executed. He does this by breaking down the complex into actionable steps.  He also approaches business challenges and opportunities from a broad perspective having C-level experience in software, consumer products, professional services, wholesale distribution and retail.

Mike is active in Young Presidents’ Organization (“YPO”). He is Chairman Emeritus for the Austin Chapter of YPO and has also served as Education Chair, Membership Chair, Network Chair and Forum Moderator. Mike has attended Presidents’ Seminars at Harvard and the London Business Schools; Universities and Experiences in Beijing, Argentina, Manila, Kyoto and Russia; and Global Leadership Conferences in DC, Sydney, Miami, LA and Vancouver.

Mike enjoys presenting to professional audiences on such topics as leadership, mergers and acquisitions, growth, turnarounds and change.  He also speaks on a more personal level about work-life balance and career management.

Mike is referenced in the book Shortcut to Prosperity, 10 Entrepreneurial Habits and a Roadmap for an Exceptional Career by Mark Hopkins. In the chapters “Know Thyself” and “Recognize and Quickly Analyze Opportunities,” the author describes Mike’s approach towards lifetime goals and career development, and explains how Mike employs the principles of personal entrepreneurship. The book’s editor called Mike “one of the most disciplined, self-aware people I have ever met.”

Mike has a passion for minority education and is a recipient of the Jerry Porras Latino Leadership Award (co-author of Built to Last). His current or prior board affiliations include: Breakthrough Central Texas; the Management Board and the Racial Equity Task Force at the Stanford Graduate School of Business; Pace University’s President’s Council; St. Edward’s University; The National MS Society; and the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas.
